It was a challenge we couldn’t resist: recognizing that supplies are low in local food banks this time of year, the coastal Rotary clubs decided to see who could collect the most food in the month of February. When our Peninsula Rotary club joined the challenge, we upped the ante within the club by having a “Men vs. Women” competition – and the food banks are the winners.
This contest was started in December 2009 by the Rotary Club of Tillamook and the Rotary Club of SW Pacific County Peninsula eagerly joined in. This year, the friendly competition between the men and women added to the fun and much to the delight of the female members, they bested the men by 59 pounds! Over 600 pounds of food was donated and will be distributed to our local food banks and the “backpack” program.
Last year, the Rotary Club of North Tillamook County was the big winner (while our club women ousted our club’s men) and enjoyed bragging rights throughout the year. We expect the Tillamook Club will enjoy winning back the competition they began. We know the women in our club will enjoy reminding the men of our 2-year winning streak! Best of all, a few families will be fed.
