Kite Festival Raffle

Thanks to Shelly, Lynn & Emily pulling together at the eleventh hour, we had a beautiful kite to raffle off and Rotarians organized to work our Kite Festival information booth duty day on Friday. Final accounting isn’t in yet, but it looks like we raised just over $400 for the Boys & Girls Club! Thanks to everyone who worked the booth and sold tickets!

What is a Rotary Foundation sustaining member?

This is an individual who has made a minimum initial contribution of $100.00 to the Annual Programs Fund of the Rotary Foundation and has stated in writing his/her intentions of making minimum contributions of $100.00 or more per year thereafter to the Annual Programs Fund of the Rotary Foundation. After donating $100.00 per year for 10 years, he/she becomes a Paul Harris Fellow.

We have 8 Rotary Foundation sustaining members in our club and a goal of being a ’100% club’ with all our members participating by June 30, 2007.

For $1.92 per week, you too can be a Rotary Foundation sustaining member!

Nancey would love to make it painless for you.

Membership Development Workshop in Clackamas, OR

Shirley went to the first of this year’s District Membership Workshops and tells me she has a lot to share. We’ll be scheduling an opportunity for her to update the club soon.

This just in about the next workshop:

There will be a Membership Development Workshop on October 14th in Clackamas, Oregon. This would be an excellent workshop for any Rotarian interested in membership.

That’s Cranberrian Fair weekend, but I’m hoping at least a couple of us can get away. Interested? Go to our new district website (www.clubrunner.ca/5100) and click on Membership Development Workshop, under District Events, for more information and registration.

West Columbia Gorge Charter Night

We would be honored to have you share in our Charter Night on Saturday, August 26 at McMenamin’s Edgefield on Halsey in Troutdale in their ballroom. The event begins at 6:oo pm.

All attendees should make prior registration with Brenda Brady, our event chair through e-mail bradyb@mhcc.edu or (503) 491-7299. Dinner is $30 per person for Salmon, Pork, or Vegetarian.

Several have asked about providing us with a “Charter Gift” in honor of this night. While it feels somewhat like a bridal registry, if interested, our Club Secretary, Andrea Watson, (503) 661-7200, or Brenda Brady could assist you in selecting possibilities so we don’t end up with “five toasters!”

During the past year we have reveled in the development of the Rotary Club of West Columbia Gorge and the incremental growth and the projects we have already undertaken. We look forward to associating with each of you and the potential for joint service projects to benefit our local communities and the world in general.

Most importantly, I hope you can join with us in this celebration, and that we can begin a collaborative service in Rotary.

With warmest Rotary regards,

Terry Kneisler, President

How is the Rotary Foundation Funded?

The Rotary Foundation is funded in two different ways: the Annual Programs Fund and the permanent programs fund. The primary source of unrestricted support for the programs of the Rotary Foundation, the Annual Programs Fund supports programs in 163 countries on seven continents. From digging clean water wells for villages in africa to reaching basic literacy skills to children in latin america, during any given moment in a day, thousands of Rotarians’ volunteer their time and expertise to ensure that all contributions given to the Annual Programs Fund are spent wisely on quality Rotary projects. In 2003-04 Rotary year, $106 million was donated to the Rotary Foundation’s Annual Programs Fund. The Annual Programs Fund is comprised of donations from Paul Harris Fellows, Rotary Foundation sustaining members, corporate matching gifts, workplace giving and honorary and memorial gifts.

Read what your annual gift can do. Remember, a $100 annual donation meets the ‘Every Rotarian, Every Year’ requirement and earns your way into the Red Wing Society.

PARTNERS IN SERVICE Project Fair

This week, Past District Governor (04-05) Dick Elixman will be talking to the club about World Community Service Projects and the Partners In Service Fair coming up September 23rd.

Partners In Service are Rotarians capable of making presentations that will impact the audience in a positive way. These individuals will have had hands-on involvement with managing and developing international projects in the District. They will each have the ability to effectively speak in English and will provide multi-media presentations that include pictures and graphics to vividly convey their thanks and the impact of the projects completed.

Partners in Service will be visiting our club on September 19th with a presentation which will include the projects they are doing through the clubs in the District, as well as acknowledge the importance of the contributions made by Rotarians in this District. They’ll talk with us about making a connection with an International Partner or simply exploring the idea of establishing an International Project. [more info]

Partners In Service will be available to meet personally with clubs that are interested in making a connection with an International Partner or to simply explore the idea of establishing an International Project. The District 5100 Foundation Committee will be conducting training sessions to assist those clubs in all areas, from selecting an international partner to defining a project and successfully completing that project.

This is an outstanding opportunity for our club to expand our commitment to World Community Service. If you’ve had even an inkling of wanting to be involved in a WCS project, please mark your calendar and be sure to attend club meetings on August 22 & September 19 and the District Partners In Service Fair on Saturday, September 23, 7am-7pm, Kingstad Center – Beaverton, OR . Please RSVP to Keleigh if you plan to attend the Fair. keleigh@beachrotary.org
