What is a multi- year Ambassadorial Scholarship?

A multi-year Ambassadorial Scholarship is awarded for two years of degree-oriented study abroad. The scholarship is a $13,000.00 per year flat grant for a total of $26,000.00. The scholarship cannot be used for Rotarians, honorary Rotarians, spouses of Rotarians, lineal descendants and their spouses or ancestors of any Rotarian or honorary Rotarian.

Do you know someone who wants to pursue a two-year graduate level degree program abroad? If so, nominate them – the application process starts with you!

Did you know…?

Some of the world's most distinguished leaders are alumni of the
Rotary scholarship program, including: Ambassador Otto Borch of
Denmark, the late Carlos Alberto da Monta Pinto, Prime Minister of
Portugal; Sadako Ogata, the former UN High Commissioner for Refugees;
Bill Moyers, prominent Television Journalist and former Deputy
Director of the US Peace Corps; Paul Volcker, Professor, Economist
and former Chairman of the US Federal Reserve Bank; Sir William Dean,
last Governor of the Commonwealth of Australia; Philip Lader, former
US Ambassador to Great Britain; and renowned Pianist Van Clyburn,
winner of the first Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in
Moscow.

There are many others as well. Who can you recommend that would be an
excellent Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar?

PR Grant Update

Late breaking news! I just received a call from Judy McMorine, our District Membership Chair. Judy and our District P.R. Chair Doug Porter made an outstanding grant proposal to R.I. for a District Wide P.R. campaign that has been accepted. With this grant, plus great support from many of the District 5100 clubs, we will be able to run a District wide television and print media campaign using Rotary prepared public service announcements and print material. My thanks to all, who worked very hard to make this proposal successful. More detailed information will be forthcoming in January.

Yours in Rotary Service;

Tom Jenkins

District Governor 06-07
District 5100

Goal Reminder from DG Tom

Here is what I hope individual clubs and the district as a whole can accomplish in the 2007 part of our year.

1.      All clubs will accomplish the “Red Wing” society goal of 100% of your membership supporting the R.I. Foundation at the $100.00 level. Mary and I will match that giving at $100.00 per club.

2.      All clubs will, by April 1st, have a positive membership growth. This is measured by the starting membership number you submitted on your July 2006 SAR. This is the only mandatory goal to achieve a “Presidential Citation”.

3.      All clubs will earn a “Presidential Citation”. Is this very ambitious? Of course it is. However, if you will study the citation brochure, it is an attainable goal. I look forward to presenting many of the citations in the spring in person.

4.      The District will increase its number of Paul Harris Fellows; membership in the Paul Harris Society will grow; Rotarians doing estate plans will consider a bequest to the foundation and those individuals capable of making significant one time contributions will become major donors.
