Theme & Logo for Rotary Year 2007-2008

RIPE Wilf Wilkinson unveils the Theme & Logo for the Rotary Year 2007-2008
Our theme for 2007-08 is reversible:  Rotary Shares and so we  must all share Rotary.  During the first three decades of my life as a Rotarian, Rotary was growing steadily.  No thanks to me, however, as I never brought in any new members.  When Rotary’s numbers began to drop in existing clubs, I suddenly realized that the organization I had come to care about so deeply would not simply continue to grow on its own.  I understood then that I – and every other Rotarian – share the responsibility of bringing new members into our ranks, and it was time that I did my part.
In the coming year, I will be encouraging each one of you to do your part and share Rotary with other business and professional leaders in your community.  I have set a goal for every Rotarian on my leadership team of directors, training leaders, membership coordinators, district governors, and club presidents to bring in at least one new member in 2007-08.  I’m even asking all the past RI presidents to join us in this effort.  Moving on from there, I have established a plan for recognizing all Rotarians who bring in new members.  Working together, let us share the responsibility for Rotary’s growth and make all our clubs stronger and more viable.

The dedicated Rotarians who develop dynamic project ideas and galvanize other members to action form the backbone of every club, but there are too few of them.  I believe that every one of us could be that kind of Rotarian if we just take that important first step toward personal involvement – if we just say yes.
YES, I will lead that project.
YES, I will bring in a new member.
YES, I will share my ideas and my resources to make my club stronger.
I am convinced that 1.2 million involved and active Rotarians can finish the job on polio eradication; carry out projects involving health, water, and literacy; promote the cause of peace to every part of the globe; and clearly and powerfully demonstrate to the world that
ROTARY  SHARES

Like an opportunity to dust off that old musical instrument???   ROTARY District is forming a musical group to play at Rotary events.  Our first “gig” is at District Ladership Assembly at noon on April 14th, Battle Ground WA.  We have already a keyboardist, saxaphone, banjo (doubling on musical saw), percussion, drummer, and guitar but everyone interested is welcome to join in.  (probably 50s and 60s standards.) Because of logistics, we probably won’t do much with practice at least initially, and seek musicians that can “jam.”  If interested contact Mike Gaston (360) 574-0984, e-mail jonmig1@comcast.net for more info, or just bring your instrument with you to this first “gig.”    Mike Gaston

DISTRICT 4400 PROJECT FAIR–QUITO

Dear Club President,

We are very much pleased to extend to your Club our invitation to attend our Fourth Ecuador Project Fair, to be held at the J. W. Marriott Hotel in Quito, Ecuador on Friday, October 19th, and Saturday, October 20th, 2007.

A project fair is one of the Rotary programs which enables Clubs to find partners for developing international humanitarian projects.  During this two days event, visiting Rotarians will have the opportunity to meet Rotarians of our local Clubs and discuss their necessities and  projects, trying to reach an agreement for a joint work on them.  The personal relation and friendship established between Rotarians and Clubs of other countries with ours, will make it possible to materialize many projects to solve the needs of Ecuador’s poor communities.

Please consider this event as an opportunity for your Club to begin  or expand its work in international humanitarian projects.

For this fair we are offering the possibilty for visiting rotatians, who wish to do so,  to stay without cost at local rotarian homes and greatly enjoy the traditional ecuadorean hospitality.

Coming Rotarians will also have the opportunity to enjoy our beautiful country, by visiting our capital Quito, declared 27 years ago as Cultural Heritage of  Humanity because of its large and  spectacular historical center. Very nearby is the exact Middle of the World. Also available is an excursion to the worldwide known Galapagos Islands. Other options are a tour to the Amazonian jungle or an excursion to Otavalo, Cuenca and other attractions of our Andean highlands. Arrangements can be made for other destinations they may wish to visit.

Friday, Oct. 19  afternoon  -  First session of the Fair at the J. W. Marriott Hotel. Welcome Dinner.
Saturday, Oct. 20    - Second session of the Fair, including lunch.
Sunday, Oct. 21– City tour to Quito and to the Middle of the World .
Monday, Oct. 22 – Beginning of group excusions and tours.

-Amazonian jungle program, 4 days / 3 nights, US$ 480 (double room) or US$ 570 (single room) per person.

We would greatly appreciate if your Club and its International Service Committee could consider participating in this event.  Please also forward this invitation to your Club´s President Elect 2007-2008 for his consideration.

Please note that our Rotarian Manuel Nieto (quimicac@quimicacom.com or mnietoj@uio.satnet.net)  has been appointed again as Chairman of this Fourth  Project Fair District Committee, and Rotarian Odd Hansen (oddehan@interactive.net.ec) as International Promotion Chair. We are sure that with their experience from prior fairs, this fair will be even better.

Please contact them for registration or any further information you may need.  In a few weeks, information on the fair will also be published at our District website www. distritorotario4400.org.
With your participation in projects from the fair,  we will certainly be complying with our 2007-2008 theme ROTARY SHARES.

Thank you for your cooperation and we hope to greet you soon in our beautiful country. We look forward to establishing a long lasting and mutually rewarding Rotarian relationship with you.

OPPORTUNITY: Rotarians Doing Business With Rotarians

We have an exciting new area that will be going up on our district
website in a few weeks. It is a Yellow Pages for Rotarians in the
district. We are selling advertising for one year at a cost of
$45.00/year. To sign up, click on the following link: http://

www.rotaweb.org/ypg_search.cgi?district=5100
We are getting the word out to the district leadership to get some
listings, so when we show it to our Presidents Elect at PETS there
will be something to see!!! The PE's will then take back the
information back to their clubs to get further listings.

The money raised through the yellow pages will fund the Partners in
Service Program in September ~ so the funds go to a very worthy
Rotary cause. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanking you in advance, Kristi

Elva Jay Report

Elva Jay Condition Report as of 0800, 3/1/07:

Elva has come thru the five bypass heart operation very well. I
cannot say enough about the care and competency we have experienced
at SW Medical Hospital here in Vanc. Today, a permanent pace maker is
being installed as it has been difficult to obtain a regular heart beat.

Her spirits are good, all tubes and wires have been removed. She
should be moved out of the CCU and onto the regular floor for heart
patients today. Maybe home by Sun or Mon. and then into a six week
recovery period while the breast bone incision mends.

I have curtailed my Rotary activities and consequently are a little
behind in getting ready for July 1. However having Elva's daughter
with us this winter is really great.

Thanks for all your cards, emails and phone calls, and hugs too. dave
