Friendship Exhange to India

Here is your opportunity to travel to India as part of a Rotary Friendship Exchange!

An outbound trip to District 3060 in India is being planned for early January of 2008. District 3060 is located within the Indian state of Gujarat along the western coast of the country. It borders the states of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh to the north and east and the state of Maharashtra to the south. The state is home to as many as 50 million people, or roughly five percent of the national population. English is spoken by all educated people in Gujarat. At this point, four persons are confirmed for this trip; there are openings for up to six more.

Paul Schultz, a member of the Oregon City Rotary Club and an experienced Friendship Exchange participant, will be leading the outbound group. Paul can be contacted at p-schultz@comcast.net.

Membership Workshop

Reminder that the first District 5100 Membership Workshops will be held on Saturday, October 20th from 8am- 2pm at the Oxford Suites Hotel in Jantzen Beach.

This year’s Fall workshop will include guest presenters Rosemary Barker Aragon (RI Zone 23 Membership Coordinator) presenting on Generations, PDG Tom Jenkins presenting on a member education program, and Kristi Govertsen,(District Regional Membership Coordinator) presenting on “Rotarians in Our Twenties & Thirites” (RIOTT).

Cyprus Peace Project

Program: Cyprus Peace Project

Place:               Tigard Rotary Club, Home Builders Association in Lake Oswego (near Trader Joe’s)

When: October 11, 2007 at noon

15 peacemakers from Cyprus will be attending a “Cyprus Peace Conference Workshop” at Portland State University sponsored by PSU’s Hatfield School of Government, Conflict Resolution Program, Contemporary Turkish Studies Program and the Jubitz Family Foundation during October 9-14. Program organizers Rotarians Birol Yesilada and Harry Anastasiou will present the parameters of this peace project in Cyprus and its relevance for Rotary International at the Rotary Club of Tigard meeting on October 11, at noon. Participants are Greek and Turkish Cypriot politicians, bicommunal activity leaders, journalist, professors, and workshop partners from US and Canadian universities.
