Farewell to Charter Member Sam Pierce

Rotarian Sam Pierce left us this week, just weeks shy of his 89th birthday.  His wife of 66 years, Lucille, and his daughter, Julie, were kind enough to respond to a query for information so Sam could be properly honored at District Conference this past weekend.

  • Sam joined Rotary as a member of the Rotary Club of SouthEast Portland (1972).
  • Charter Member of the Rotary Club of SW Pacific County Peninsula
  • Past President Rotary Club of SW Pacific County Peninsula
  • Received the “4 Avenues of Service Citation for Individual Rotarians”  signed by James L Lang, Int. President
  • Recipient of two Paul Harris awards
  • Hosts to a Rotary exchange student from New Zealand
  • District 5100 Couple of the Year Award 2001-2002
  • Notable Club Member awarded by then DG Norb Murray
  • Active member of the Rotary Club of SW Pacific County Peninsula through 2007 when health issues necessitated moving.  Sam remained an Honorary Member until his death.

Sam is greatly missed and is remembered as the definition of a Rotarian–Service Above Self, Integrity, Fairness, Goodwill, Friendships, Peacemaker.
