Peninsula Rotary has partnered with Luggage of Love to provide Comfort Bags to children experiencing a transition from one home to another.
Luggage of Love was created to provide comfort and dignity to foster and vulnerable children in the midst of sadness and uncertain situation that are beyond their control. Karin Austin of Kalama found, during her work as a CASA volunteer, that children taken from an unsafe situation often had nothing but a garbage bag in which to pack their meager belongings. She started Luggage of Love to help bridge the gap and help children feel cared for and secure.
Luggage of Love had been providing bags for children in Pacific County as well as in several other counties of SW Washington. Challenged to keep up with the demand from a distance, coordinators in a variety of communities were sought and have been successful in using the model to provide Comfort Bags in their area.
Peninsula Rotary has taken responsibility for filling the need in Pacific County. The club welcomes help to keep the program strong and community-based.
