Harvest Haul Helps Hungry
Harvest Haul, a food drive for the Peninsula, has come to a close. This was the fourth year for the OMG Radio, Okie’s Thriftway Market, Great NorthWest Federal Credit Union Harvest Haul. All food and cash donations during the Harvest Haul go directly to the Ilwaco and Ocean Park Food Banks.
Pre-collection of food began on September 29th and donations were made at Okie’s in Ocean Park or either Great NorthWest Federal Credit Union branch as well as the following supporting sponsors: Lost Roo, Ocean Beach Hospital, any Peninsula Pharmacy, Boardwalk Quilts, either RE/MAX Excellence office and Peninsula Golf and the Cove. Food donation bins were donated by Dennis Company in Long Beach. Ocean Park Elementary School also collected food for the Harvest Haul.

The Harvest Haul concluded with a live remote, Saturday the 25th, with Dave Martin of Eagle Country 103.9 at Okie’s Thriftway Market in Ocean Park and Ken Heman from 102.3 KCRX the Classic Rock station at Great NorthWest Federal Credit Union in Long Beach. Nicki Whittle, Account Executive at OMG Radio and organizer of the event was present at both. The event took place from 11am-2pm.
Totals:
- Ocean Park Food Bank: 1015 lbs of food total and $604 in cash donations
- Ilwaco Food Bank: 787 lbs of food total and $953 in cash donations
- Total Harvest Haul contributions: 1802 lb of food and $1557 in cash donations
A $1000 cash donation was made by the Peninsula Rotary, a major factor in total cash donated. Chico’s Pizza donated a pizza party to the Ocean Park Elementary class collecting the most food; Melissa Linquist’s 5th grade class was this year’s winner.
